About Dorothy Forster Court

Dorothy Forster Court sits inside a 17th-century building right in the heart of Alnwick, Northumberland. This ground-floor apartment sleeps two and suits a couple's getaway perfectly. Alnwick is an old market town whose narrow streets have barely changed since coach travel days. The property is almost opposite the entrance to Alnwick Castle, yet guests repeatedly note how quiet it stays despite the central position.

Shops, cafés, pubs and a bookshop café are all within a short walk and Alnmouth railway station is about ten minutes away by car for those heading further afield.

The apartment has one twin bedroom, overlooking the rear courtyard and set well back from road noise. It comes with electric blankets, hot water bottles and woollen throws for colder stays. The shower room has underfloor heating. An open-plan kitchen, dining area and sitting area complete the layout, with a stylish dining table and a kitchen equipped for cooking meals for two.

Alnwick Castle is a two-minute walk away and home to the Duke of Northumberland, while the gardens, a five-minute walk, have a huge cascading water feature plus a large treehouse. The castle also appeared as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. Alnmouth, with its sandy beaches, is four miles away (around 10 minutes by car). Bamburgh, with its coastal castle, is 18 miles off (roughly 25 minutes). Rothbury is 12 miles away (about 20 minutes), good for riverside walks.

The property has character and has modern well maintained equipment.The layout of the loungekitchen is very good & comfortable. We like to include some golf when away and weren't disappointed. I love Dorothy Forster Court as it's right in the centre of Alnwick and therefore within easy walking distance to all the amenities. The gardens and Castle are within easy walking distance from Dorothy Forster Court. The property has everything for a comfortable stay.

We loved staying at Dorothy Forster Court it was quiet, but very close to the pubs and shops of Alnwick. Parking was easy and close, and we were grateful for the permits provided. The kitchen was well equipped, and bathroom clean and well equipped. Any negatives? We struggled to think of any, it is a lovely place to stay. The situation for recycling was a little unclear so it would useful if there was some expanded guidance on what can be recycled locally, and where. But this is clearly picky, when overall its a wonderful place to stay.
Lovely little cottage, well equipped with everything we needed and a good location for local shops, restaurants and cafes. The cottage stayed lovely and cool even on the hottest days which was a real bonus and the bedroom was very quiet. We really enjoyed our stay there and would recommend it to others .

The accommodation was exactly as described. The location was perfect for visiting the castle, pubs & restaurants & the town . Parking on the road free of charge was a bonus . The accommodation was very clean throughout & well equipped. We didnt use the washing machine, watch tv or cook at all but very useful to have . The welcome pack of toiletries & slippers was such a lovely surprise. We would definitely recommend the accommodation & would like to return . Very impressed

We had a lovely weeks stay at Dorothy Forster Court. It is ideally situated in Alnwick for visits to the castle and gardens and then only 20 minutes to Bamburgh and Seahouses informationmaps were very helpful. The apartment had everything you needed and more even providing electric blankets for the beds which was great for us oldies. Car parking with the permit was good and we had no issues parking around the corner. The only thing we noticed was we had a drain smell the first evening from the shower trap, but this went after it had been used and it could do with a new loo brush. But otherwise a fantastic stay and we will hopefully return.

This was our third stay in this apartment and when we walked through the door it felt as if we were coming home. It looked as though it had been recently decorated throughout, and was spotlessly clean. It is centrally located to shops, cafes, bars and restaurants and Alnwick Garden castle closed in winter. We couldn't find the visitor book to leave our comments for others to read. We very much hope to return.

DFC was warm, comfortable and spotlessly clean. There were lovely touches like the tea tray laid for our arrival with pot, tea and biscuits and milk in the fridge. Toiletries and slippers greeted us in the bedroom. Everything you could need had been thought of and provided from cooking pots the right size for two people to hot water bottles and woollen throws. The apartment is well situated by the castle and within minutes of shops, cafes and pubs. I heard back speedily when I enquired about putting out the wheelie bin though not when I advised about our slightly early departure to avoid bad weather conditions going home. My only niggle, and it's minor, is that I felt there were one or two instructions too many. Though we followed them all to the letter!

An absolutely lovely property. Very well situated in the town. It was well equipped and the welcome package was very welcome. Its close enough to excellent bars and cafes, supermarkets etc. It was very clean, the beds are beautifully comfy and warm. All in all for access and comfort this is one of the best properties we have stayed in.
The owner was helpful and called me back to give the information requested. The house was very conveniently situated for the town and castle, being part of a C18th historic building. The interior was recently refurbished to a good standard that maintained the old feel but with all modern conveniences. The furnishings very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped and neatly organised to maximise the space.

On arrival was delighted to find a quaint well equipped cottage, once we had unpacked we found our feet and was surprised how convenient to all the local amenities we were . I would recommend dorothy forster cottage to anyone it was a lovely place to come back to after a day exploring.

A lovely property in a prime position, near the Castle. very comfortable and clean.
The cottage was well equipped and comfortable. It is in a central position and the parking was a bonus.
The property was exactly as described and very comfortable, with everything we needed for a wonderful stay. The location was great too, right in the heart of Alnwick, with even parking nearby taken care of. The only slight disturbance we encountered was from the upstairs property, where we could hear noises from time to time. This is the nature of the building we imagine.

Gorgeous period apartment, beautifully presented, very clean and very comfortable. Cose to the castle and the high street and in easy walking distance of other attractions. Excellent pubrestaurant within 14 of a mile the Dirty Bottles well worth a visit. This was our second visit this year and won't be our last. Can highly recommend this accommodation.
Not a reflection on the property but parking in Alnwick can cause minor inconvenience and for that reason only I would have preferred to have chosen a property with parking. That said the permit provided worked.
Really lovely property, felt totally at home from the moment we walked in. Very well situated for exploring Alnwick and surrounding area. The only criticism is that the shower room is a bit tight, specially for the larger person, which we are, also the step up into the shower is very high, could possibly do with a grab handle. We had a lovely stay in this property which is perfectly situated for Alnwick and surrounding area. The property was exactly as described, clean and well equipped. The welcome packs were a nice touch. Parking was not an issue, thank you for the permit. We always found a space close by. Alnwick is a perfect base for exploring the local area and with this property being centrally located is was so easy to stock up on food or eat out. The beds are very comfy, we got a great night's sleep.

The bedroom was a delight, beds very comfortable but the curtains, although they looked lovely could really have done with a blackout lining, waking at 4. 00 a.m. is not my idea of a good night's sleep. Parking was a major problem for me, the 50 yards quote rarely happened if we returned before 6.00 p.m. but this was on bank holiday. Other than these we had a fab stay in a beautiful cottage. These things might not bother anyone else.

A well presented property that the owner clearly takes pride in. Very clean and beds very comfortable we slept very well. Well resourced with good TV and kitchen equipment etc. Quiet location even though it is in the centre of Alnwick. Close to good restaurants and a couple of friendly bars. Particularly close to the entrance to the castle. Very good free residents parking nearby, with spaces always available. Well positioned for exploring Northumberland, being close to Craster, Alnmouth, Boulmer, Embleton, Howick, etc. M&S food hall not far away!
