Upper Oakwood is a second-floor apartment set in a period building right in the centre of Alnwick, Northumberland. Original features include ornamental fireplaces and original wooden flooring, plus beautiful sash windows with shutters. The living room is light and airy with large windows and one reviewer called it very spacious. Note there are lots of stairs, so it won't suit guests with mobility issues.

Alnwick's narrow streets have barely changed since stagecoach days and the Market Place with its stone cross still hosts a weekly Saturday market. You're a short walk from independent shops, cafés, restaurants and pubs.

About Upper Oakwood

The Northumberland coast with its golden sandy beaches is a short drive away and Warkworth Castle and Dunstanburgh Castle both sit within easy reach for a day out.

The apartment sleeps four across a double bedroom with en-suite walk-in shower and a twin bedroom. There's a separate bathroom with bath and heated towel rail. The kitchen/diner has an electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher and washing machine plus a dining table for mealtimes, while the living/dining room gives extra space to relax.

Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland and the setting for Hogwarts School in the Harry Potter films, is under a mile from the door. Alnwick Garden, with Europe's largest cascading water feature and a large treehouse, sits right alongside it. Perfect location, easy to find, loads of clear instructions, everything we needed for our stay had been thought about by the hosts.

Parking an issue. Keysafe too high for easy access. Werent aware of all the flights of stairs. Need more than one set of house keys. Didnt like the macerator toilet, very noisy. Difficult to navigate the TV. We were expecting a king size bed but it wasnt. Need to replace the pillows. Cooker hood not working. However, nicely furnished and decorated.

This is a lovely period property well located in Alnwick, with everything you need for a comfortable stay. We were close to all the wonderful restaurants and bars, and really enjoyed our holiday. A lot of thought has gone into making the flat comfortable. It was clean with lovely towels and bed linen, and separate shower room and bathroom, which is handy. Nice and warm too! What I would say is that the flat can be a little noisy. There is another property above with floorboards, and this meant sound travelled early mornings. There is also a degree of street noise at night as town centre location, and during the day, street works started this week for the next few weeks, which meant an early start and a lot of drilling! Thankfully the peaceful Northumberland coast is only a short drive away. On balance a great property for a break in Alnwick.

My partner and I stayed FridayMonday, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is in a fantastic location and has natural light throughout. The flat was extremely clean and full of great character. The picture online does not do the living room justice, as it is very spacious. We had an incredible sleep, as the bed is very comfortable. The shower is powerful, and we had no issues with hot water. Additionally, the welcome pack on arrival was a very nice touch. Dirty Bottles and Mumbai are two great restaurants that we would recommend. Please bear in mind that this property is in a central location therefore, naturally, there is some lowlevel outdoor noise at times however, this was not an issue for us. Overall, we had a great stay and are looking forward to booking again.

We have just stayed at Upper Oakwood and other than the apartment being beautifully decorated and having great facilities I have nothing good to say. Weve had little to no sleep with the amount of noise from the people walking around upstairs due to their floor boards being ridiculously noisy to the point they sound like they are going to come through the ceiling and the nightlife pounding on until the early hours. People walking past shriekingfighting on the street behind on the pub crawl route and with the windows being single glazed they might as well have been inside. My five year old has been woken up at least 10 times each night, including with the floorboard stomping and creaking above. All in all we wouldnt recommend for any families at all. The apartment would be good for people wanting to go out and party in Alnwick however for anything else it just isnt a relaxing break. It is however beautiful inside and has a lovely charm to it.

Lovely apartment in lovely town. Nicely furnished and well equipped. Very clean and comfortablevery comfy beds and settees. There was noise in the street on weekend evenings but nothing unpleasant and it was all over by 1130pm.
